In a commanding performance, Pakistan defeated Australia by eight wickets, securing their first men’s one-day international (ODI) series win in Australia in 22 years.

After dismissing the defending world champions for a mere 140 runs at Perth Stadium, Mohammad Rizwan’s side comfortably chased down the target in the 27th over.

This impressive win, bolstered by exceptional bowling from Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf, marked Pakistan’s first ODI series triumph in Australia since 2002.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hailed the win as “memorable.”

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised the players, stating, “By defeating a strong team like Australia on their home ground, the players made the nation proud.”

Numerous political leaders also took to the social media platform X to congratulate the team. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the victory “a result of the unity and teamwork of our talented players, along with the efforts of the coaching staff and the PCB under Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.”

President Asif Ali Zardari extended his congratulations from the President House, commending the team’s achievement after 22 years. “The Pakistan cricket team has performed exceptionally, and the entire team deserves recognition for this outstanding display,” the statement read, adding hopes for more future successes.

Former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari applauded the team’s “superb series win against Australia.”

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori noted that defeating a historically strong team on their home turf showcased the national team’s capabilities.

Celebrations followed in the cricketing world as well. Test Captain Shan Masood praised the team for showing resilience and character by winning the series after trailing.

Ex-cricketer Shahid Afridi shared his congratulations on X, while English cricketer Kevin Pietersen encouraged Pakistan to “put the politics aside and let the cricket do the talking.”

Legendary cricketer Wasim Akram, who provided commentary for the series, described Pakistan’s victory as a “big achievement” and noted that it would boost confidence for the players, new captain Rizwan, the cricket board, and, importantly, the fans.

Cricketer Shadab Khan commended the team’s “brilliant bowling and planning.”

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers highlighted recent wins for touring teams, including New Zealand’s win in India and South Africa’s win in Bangladesh.
