WhatsApp beta users report severe green screen issue, left disgruntled

A major bug in the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.24.5 for Android is causing devices to become unresponsive by turning the entire screen green when users try to open a chat or message.

This issue isn’t to be confused with green lines, which are a permanent hardware issue on OLED screens. In this case, the entire display goes green whenever WhatsApp is opened, and the screen returns to normal only after closing the app.

Fortunately, this bug does not appear in the stable version of WhatsApp, and it currently only affects Android users—no iOS WhatsApp beta testers have reported experiencing this problem.

How to Fix the WhatsApp Green Screen Issue

If you prefer to wait, Meta is likely to release an update to fix this bug. However, there is no timeline yet, as it is not an urgent issue on the beta build.

For immediate resolution, leaving the beta testing program may be the best option. Some users who downgrade from beta to the stable version still encounter the issue, so using WhatsApp on a companion device like a laptop, tablet, or iPhone may be a helpful workaround.

If that doesn’t work, uninstalling WhatsApp and reinstalling the latest stable version may solve the problem. Be sure to back up your chats on Google Cloud beforehand to avoid losing any important messages.
